THE CLEVER AND WITTY BRUCE RUSSELL...

I've talked about Bruce Russell once before, many moons ago.

He's a nondescript talkback host on the conservative ZB network and confined largely to the graveyard shift - where his lack of knowledge about most things goes largely unnoticed.

Russell infamouly argued that the invasion of Iraq was justfied because Al Queda had training camps in Northern Iraq. It was utter rubbish but, remember, we're talking about a guy who thinks Fox News is a legitimate news channel.

This morning I crazily tuned into Russell and, yes, he's still at it - parading his right wing prejudices and pretending its legitimate comment.

First up, he was derisive of John Minto's criticism of the decision to arm the police with tazer weapons.

Fellow journalist Alexia Russell (no relation, I think), in the studio at the time, also joined in the criticism and general jeering

'Alexia's rolling her eyes,' Russell informed us.

John Minto taken care of, Russell tumed his atention to Dr Judy McGregor from the Human Rights Commisson. She's criticised the National Government for pushing throughh a series of parliamentary bills under urgency, rightly arguing it is a attack on due process and denies people the legiimate right to voice opposing views at the committee stage.

Russell's response?

It was another considered and thoughtful comment, so typical of Russell.

'She should stick to her knitting,' he said.

Even Alexia Russell found that a bit difficult to take. 'That's a bit hard, Bruce' she said, or words to that effect.

It was time for yet another commercial break. I switched off.
