BREAKING THE SET presenter Abby Martin has announced that she is leaving the show. She has been hosting BTS, which broadcasts on RT (Sky 92), since September
2012.
BTS has defined itself with a mix of investigative journalism , interviews and media criticism - from a determinedly and uncompromising left wing perspective.
Along the way the show has covered a wide range of issues from the failure of representative democracy, the occupy movement, socialism, the NSA, and Israel. Martin's final week will feature a number of reports from
Cuba.
With Martin’s departure, BTS - which was largely her creation - will also come to an end. The five day a week show, along with news shows like Democracy Now, was a much needed
alternative to the conservative spin of the corporate media.
Martin says her decision to leave was prompted by a desire to spend more time away from the studio.
"Throughout the course of the show, I’m most proud of the stories we’ve done on the
road – Pine Ridge, Detroit, Gulf Coast, Guantanamo Bay and soon to be released Cuba. As such, after almost three years of reporting from the studio I’ve decided to focus on investigative field reporting.
Martin has assured her many fans that she “isn't going anywhere"
" If I can’t find a platform to host my show vision with the same editorial freedom,
I will turn to crowdsourcing. And until I establish my next venture I’ll be writing daily, podcasting, producing video shorts and doing talks around the world."
She can continue to be found on Facebook and Twitter and her website Media Roots.
