IN THIS TED TALK from December last year, Pania Newton talks about the issues surrounding Ihumatao. The co-founder of SOUL (Save Our Unique Landscape) says that Ihumatao is a landscape of cultural, historical, and environmental significance but, despite this, the Crown has failed to recognise its heritage values for New Zealand, allowing it to be sold for a proposed housing development.

She also asks why is there is clear bias toward protecting colonial built heritage over sites of indigenous significance.
