Green New Deal posters that conservative critics claim have been inspired by Soviet propaganda are actually inspired by posters produced during the era of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal.

ON FRIDAY Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a sneak preview of two posters her office will be issuing  to promote the Green New Deal. They are the first in a series of posters.

The posters have been inspired by posters produced by The Federal Art Project, an office within the the Works Progress Administration established  in 1935 by President Franklin Roosevelt as part of his sweeping 'New Deal' economic program. The Federal Art Project was one of five New Deal cultural initiatives, known collectively as Federal One, that employed out-of-work writers, musicians, artists, and actors.

The Federal Art Project was accused by some conservative critics as being a safe harbour for 'un-American' activities. A century later, reactionary critics, including Fox News, have claimed that the new posters look like those produced by the Soviet Union in its hey-day. They clearly don't know their American history.

The posters are the work of Tandem, the agency behind Ocasio-Cortez's election campaign posters and artwork.
