The Global Ecosocialist Network was launched in January.

A SIGNIFICANT NEW DEVELOPMENT IN the fight against climate change has been the formation of the Global Ecosocialist Network (GEN). Launched in January, activists from around the world have come together 'to coordinate activity and build worldwide resistance to capitalist ecocide.'

The founding sponsors are ecosocialist activists from Africa, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

GEN says it is being launched 'at a moment of extreme danger for humanity'  and  that the only way to prevent a climate catastrophe is through 'a structural challenge to capitalism'.

GEN says that its starting point is ' two key ideas: that the principle cause of the environmental crisis is the global economic system of capitalism and that stopping climate change and related catastrophes will require socialist policies and responses.'

Its good to see that New Zealand's own Joe Carolan of the Unite Union is listed as one of the founding sponsors. The public support for GEN'S founding principles might indicate that both Carolan and the Unite Union have finally withdrawn their traditional electoral support for a Labour Party that seeks to defend and maintain the interests of capital.
