Political commentator Morgan Godfery tells Ani O'Brien of Speak Up for Women to 'go back to England' because she's '..a coloniser
and not welcome here'.
LAST YEAR blogger and commentator Morgan Godfery devoted some of his time trying to harass Rachel Stewart off Twitter and get her sacked as a columnist
for the NZ Herald. Her crime was that Labour Party friendly Godfery disagreed with her views. He was joined in that campaign by Green MP's Golriz Ghahraman and Marama Davidson and Labour MP Louisa Wall.
Godfery is proving to be a particularly unpleasant piece of
work because he's also recently been trying to bully Ani O'Brien. O'Brien is a spokesperson for Speak Up for Women, an organisation that Godfery also has several major differences with.
Speak Up for Women have always encouraged constructive debate but Godfery is in favour of authoritarian identity politics and much prefers stomping on
the right of folk to express views he doesn't like.
In a series of what can be politely described as 'ill-advised' tweets, Godfery tells O'Brien to 'go back to England' if she doesn't agree with him.
He then plays the Maori nationalist card, describing O'Brien as '...a coloniser and not welcome here'. Apparently Godfery surveyed the entire population of New Zealand to find out that Ani was 'not welcome here'.
In a Twitter response Juliet Moses has observed : 'Go back to England? Seriously? How is this any different than the people who tell Golriz Ghahraman if
she doesn’t like NZ to go back to Iran? Does the 'LOL' at the end make it ok and mean you’re not a racist bully? How droll you are Morgan.'
While those of us who espouse a politics based on class are usually ignored by the mainstream media, Godfery hasn't had a problem peddling his poisonous
politics in the mainstream media. He has appeared regularly on our television screens , both TVNZ and TV3. RNZ also like the cut of his jib because he is also an occasional guest on RNZ's 'The Panel'. He also writes for The Spinoff.

The liberal left is condemned by its silence. If a right winger, maybe a Nat, had made these comments people like Ghahraman would of been dumping on him big time. There would be outraged blog posts on The Spinoff and The Standard. But because its Godfery, nothing is said. Liberal hypocrisy.
