DEMONSTRATING YET again that New Zealand has become a vassal state of the United States, Foreign Minister Winston Peters has declined to join seventy-nine other counties who have united to oppose the Trump administration's baseless attack on the International Criminal Court.
The failure of the New Zealand Government to support the ICC flies in the face of New Zealand's long history of supporting the only permanent international court with the authority to prosecute individuals for crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Given that the coalition Government has relegated New Zealand's own foreign policy interests in favour of those of the American Empire, it also comes as no surprise that it is has shown no interest in the newly-formed The Hague Group.
Launched on January 31, The Hague Group was established by nine founder states: Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Honduras, Malaysia, Namibia, Senegal, and South Africa. Other countries are likely to join in the coming months, although New Zealand is not likely to be one of them.
The Hague Group is committed to upholding international law and holding Israel accountable for its actions against the Palestinian people.
The group says it is 'determined to uphold our obligations to end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine and support the realisation of the inalienable right of the Palestinian People to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine.'
In this new edition of the Empire Files, Abby Martin interviews Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla, Chair of The Hague Group and Co-General Coordinator of Progressive International and Chrispin Phiri, Spokesperson for the Foreign Minister of South Africa, on the efforts being made to hold Israel accountable under international law.
