Ani O'Brien, the woman implicated in the smear campaign against Green MP Benjamin Doyle, is also the General Manager of The Campaign Group. It was the group behind the recent campaign of attack billboards against the Green Party.
In 2021 O'Brien worked for the then leader of the Opposition Judith Collins as its 'Director of Digital'. A former spokesperson for Speak Up for Women, she is presently on the council of the Free Speech Union. This is an organisation that is widely regarded as being a Zionist front group. It comes as no surprise, then, that O'Brien is also a Zionist and continues to defend Israel's genocidal war in Gaza. She has had nothing to say about the over 50,000 innocent people that Israel has slaughtered in Gaza, including over 17,000 children. Apparently, O'Brien's proclaimed 'concern' for the welfare of children doesn't extend to the children of Gaza.
Although O'Brien claims to be 'a classic swing voter' and possibly 'centrist', her political track record suggests otherwise. From working for The National Party and the right-wing digital radio station The Platform (before falling out with big cheese Sean Plunket) through to her senior role for The Campaign Group, O'Brien's political loyalties lie firmly on the right.
These days, O'Brien is especially hostile toward the Green Party. The Campaign Group was hired by the Sensible Sentencing Trust to orchestrate a campaign against the Green Party, aimed at discrediting and ridiculing its views on prison reform. As Bryce Edwards has observed: 'The entire episode had a strong whiff of the “Dirty Politics” era – anonymous smear campaigns and unscrupulous political hit-jobs conducted at arm’s length from the politicians who benefit.'
Edwards also notes a triumphant Jordan Williams congratulated his team, including Ani O'Brien, for a job well done. He posted on X: 'My incredible team at The Campaign Company did the creative behind this campaign. The Greens took it hook, line, and sinker…'
The Green Party has since laid a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority.
It was Ani O'Brien who was central to driving a smear campaign against Green MP Benjamin Doyle, the allegations having since been proven to be entirely without foundation.
But O'Brien knows a thing or two about smear campaigns. Last year, she joined fellow Zionists Juliet Moses and David Cumin in an attempt to smear Green Party co-leader Chloe Swarbrick as 'anti-Semitic'. What really offends Zionists like O'Brien is that Swarbrick continues to attack Israel and its genocidal war in Gaza.
In the last day, she has reposted the above photo of Swarbrick and fellow Green MP Ricardo Menendez-March wearing traditional Palestinian attire as evidence of 'anti-Semitism'. It's complete nonsense, but this is the type of behaviour we've come to expect from O'Brien. She is now employing her dubious 'talent' on behalf of The Campaign Group.
