GOLDEN BROWN
Salvador Jimenez Hernandez and the Mariachi Mexteca band perform The Strangler's 1981 song "Golden Brown" with Hugh Cornwell, the lead singer for The Stranglers. The song isn't about a well made piece of toast but the band has always denied that it is about heroin.
An alternative interpretation is that the song is about Cornwell's Mediterranean girlfriend at the time - with golden brown skin. Cornwell is saying nothing.
The record company were reluctant to release the song but it eventually made it to number two on the UK charts.
Mariachi Mexteca is an esemble of of Mexican Mariachi musicians, based in London.
