BECAUSE OF HER socialist politics, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has had to put up with clumsy attempts by the political establishment to damage her credibility. None of its been particularly clever, ranging from attacks on the clothes that she wears and - GASP- the fact that she doesn't have much money.

The day before she was due to be sworn in as a new congresswoman old footage of her dancing while a undergraduate at Boston University was posted to Twitter. 

"Here is America's favourite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is." snarled @AnonymousQ1776. The account has since been deleted.

The footage appears to have been extracted from a larger video posted to YouTube where it has been sitting quietly since 2010. Thanks to the new publicity this little viewed video has now had nearly 3 million hits.

The attempt to embarrass Ocasio-Cortez though has massively backfired with most people swinging in behind the socialist congresswoman.

'"She'll never recover from the world seeing her dancing adorably and having fun with her friends." has been one typical tweet.

Star Trek actor George Takei tweeted that he wanted Ocasio-Cortez to give him dance lessons while Russell Crowe said he thought she was 'great'.

In response Ocasio-Cortez has posted a new video of her dancing outside her new office in the halls of Congress to the tune of 'War' by Edwin Starr.

While we might laugh now, its inevitable that the Washington political establishment will continue in its efforts to dent the credibility of the woman who has become, effectively, the public face of the American left.
