Apparently, there's a funny side to exploding pagers that kill and injure people. Just ask right wing journalist and Zionist supporter Sean Plunket...
RASHIDA TLAIB IS the first Palestinian American woman to serve in the US Congress and one of the first two Muslim women elected (along with Ilhan Omar) to Congress. Born to working class Palestinian immigrants in Detroit, she is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Since elected to Congress in 2018, she has regularly been the target for racist and anti-Muslim abuse. The level of abuse has ratcheted up since Israel began its brutal, genocidal assault on Gaza in October last year.
In November last year, the House of Representatives voted to censure Tlaib for embracing the popular Palestinian slogan 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free'. It was claimed that it was 'widely recognised' that the slogan was 'a genocidal call to violence to destroy the state of Israel and its people.' That charge was also laid at the feet of Green co-leader Chloe Swarbrick by local New Zealand Zionists, including Auckland University academic David Cumin and Auckland lawyer Juliet Moses.
But as Tlaib's congress colleague and fellow DSA member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said, the slogan is an 'aspirational call for freedom… and peaceful existence and not death, destruction, and hate'.
Last week, this cartoon appeared in the Detroit News, a newspaper in Tlaib's hometown. AOC responded:
'The way Islamophobia and anti-Arab hatred is so deeply normalized and accepted in our politics is horrifying. It rarely receives the equal condemnation it deserves. It is inexcusable and a massive double standard. This is disgusting. And so is the silence around it. We see it.'
The DSA posted on X: 'We stand with @RashidaTlaib against this disgusting racism escalating against Palestinians, Arabs, & Muslims in this country. Rashida is the only Palestinian American in Congress & becomes a target because she stands up for justice. We got her back.'
Here in New Zealand, Tlaib has, in the past, been targeted by both Juliet Moses and David Cumin. Both Zionists are regular guests on Sean Plunket's breakfast show on the internet radio station The Platform. Plunket shares similar Zionist views to Cumin and Moses. So it comes as no surprise that he should make light of Israel's terrorist attack on Lebanon, which has seen dozens of people killed and thousands maimed by exploding pagers, booby trapped by Mossad. Sean Plunket posted this to X. What a guy...
